Earlier this Summer I had the opportunity to interview Sucetty, owner of Con Amor by Sucetty. This budding entrepreneur officially started her event designer business four months ago, but she uncovered her love for decorating since becoming a homeowner. Over the years she’s also cultivated her gift of personalizing special moments of celebration through event design. I met Sucetty during a Moroccan themed girls’ night that she prepared for me and a group of phenomenal women here in the Raleigh area. I was so glad to chat with her, as I’m always inspired by entrepreneurs, women especially. I see them as courageous leaders! The heart and work ethic it takes to run a successful business coupled with the challenges faced by women who decide to fully take up their space is remarkable.
I asked Sucetty what inspired her to start her event design business, here’s what she said:
“One of the biggest things that motivates me is being able to bring happiness to people, whether it is for a gathering with my family or a client. It does not matter the occasion; my goal is always the same: get good insight about the person being honored; and use an element of what I learn about them to personalize the event experience. That is what makes it exciting for me, when I can showcase in the event design a special something about the person that I’m doing this for that they didn’t even expect.”
I also asked Sucetty what advice she would give other women trying to pursue entrepreneurship:
“Don’t look for perfection, look for progress, just pacing yourself. Also, surround yourself with the right people because honestly it does take a village. Having a person to remind you to pace yourself, a person that will cheer and celebrate with you the little wins, is truly gold. What I learned is that sometimes that “person” is not just ONE. For example, I have my husband who supports my hustle, cheers me on day-in and day-out. Friends that love being part of my journey and growth. But I also work with a life coach, who gives me the outside perspective and guidance that I need for the moments where emotions may get in the way. All these people together are my superpower! So, build up your small tribe, and rely on that support system.”
Overall, I think one of my biggest takeaways from my talk with Sucetty was that the work to becoming an entrepreneur started as an inside job. Sucetty shared that she has been on a journey to grow as a person with the help of a life coach, who helped her to take the first steps towards her goal of entrepreneurship. Lastly, Sucetty’s emphasis on building a supportive and safe community was another nugget of wisdom from our interview that I believe can lay a strong foundation for the journey towards successful entrepreneurship, but also in life.
